The Hawaiian Island of Kauai, where people come to get away, inaugurated the first Torah scroll to be completed on the Island. Richard Seigel, a local resident and his family, commissioned the Torah to serve the Island’s Jewish community on Shabbat and Jewish holidays.

Recently completed on the Island, the community came out to celebrate their new Torah. Chabad representative Rabbi Michoel Goldman spoke of the irony of the sacred Torah scroll being written in a place perceived by many as remote from all things Jewish. The Torah is a reminder that even “even in this beautiful paradise,  we could practice Judaism faithfully.”

The Torah was dedicated to the memory of Bennett Seigel.
