One Year Later Good Deeds Pledged for Mumbai Victims

(Lubavitch.com) Last year, the world watched in horror as a small, but organized group of terrorists hit Mumbai, India, with a series of coordinated attacks over the course of three frightening days. When the last bullet had been fired and the smoke finally cleared, the trail of blood and fire they left throughout Mumbai had claimed nearly 200 innocent lives, leaving scores of other maimed and wounded.

Among those so cruelly murdered were the Chabad-Lubavitch representatives Rabbi Gavriel Noach, his wife Rebbetzin Rivkah Holtzberg, and the four guests of the Chabad House, Rabbis Bentzion Kruman and Leibish Teitelbaum, Yoheved Orpaz, and Norma Shvarzblat Rabinovich. As rumors and doubts circulated during the crisis, the power of social media stood out as a tool of communication and empowerment in the face of fear, confusion and terror.

Now, with the passing of a year on the Jewish calendar, people on Twitter and other social networks are using this same medium to commemorate the yahrtzeit, or anniversary of the passing, of those who lost their lives.

Tweet a good deed with the #MyMitzvah hashtag on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 – 1 Kislev, 5770. Each good deed, however small in nature, becomes part of a tapestry of light and life – something far more powerful then any force of darkness.
