With Chabad in Basel: A First Torah Dedication

Basel, Switzerland

Five years after Chabad-Lubavitch opened in Basel, the city celebrated its first ever Hachnosat Sefer Torah in its first ever, soon-to-be completed Chabad center, under the leadership of Rabbi and Mrs. Zalman Vishedsky.

City officials and hundreds of community members arrived early to participate last week as the scribe penned the last letters on the parchment of the new Torah. Accompanied by live klezmer and dancing, the Torah was then carried under a canopy through the Basel’s streets to the synagogue, where it was installed for daily use.
