Dear Friend,

It is with great pleasure that I present to you this edition of Lubavitch International.

As we near the end of the calendar year, we took the opportunity to share stories of giving. We hope to highlight some of those people who have gone above and beyond to help build vibrant communities, and a bright Jewish future. Whether they exhibit their support by donating their time, money or talents, these are stories of regular men and women who seized the opportunity to make a meaningful difference. By giving back to their communities, these generous individuals remind us of the power of human connection, of caring for our community, and of sharing our gifts with others.

The Hebrew word for charity, Tzedakah, properly translates to “justice”. The Chassidic Masters teach that giving is not a luxury, but an essential part of each person’s mission. Each of us has been blessed with a unique gift, and by sharing that gift with other people we achieve our fullest potential. Whether it’s slipping a dime into a pushka before praying, or devoting days of our busy lives to a community project, it’s the value of giving that holds our community together. Even the smallest contribution is a reminder that we are part of something bigger, and cumulatively they bind together the social fabric of the Jewish people.

It is my hope that this magazine presents an opportunity to reflect on our blessings, and to see new ways of sharing those gifts with others.
