Chabad-Lubavitch Representative Violently Attacked On The Streets of Frankfurt

Frankfurt, Germany

In a violent anti-semitic attack, Rabbi Zalman Gurevitch,  a Chabad Shliach in Frankfurt, Germany, was stabbed in the stomach this Friday night as he was walking home from the synagogue.

His attacker shouted anti-Semitic epithets as he stabbed Rabbi Gurevitch, and fled when the Rabbi called for help. Rabbi Gurevitch was rushed to the hospital where he underwent surgery, and is now in stable condition, reported the European Jewish Press.

Although the police searched the area, they could not find the attacker and have issued notice of reward for information leading to his arrest. In the meantime, police guards are posted near Rabbi Gurevitch’s hospital room.

Charlotte Knobloch, president of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, visited the victim at the hospital and expressed shock and anger at the attack.

But Salomon Korn, Chairman of the Frankfurt Jewish community warned about premature conclusions to what is likely a vicious attack by an individual acting on his own. Last Sunday, representatives of Jewish communities throughout Germany celebrated the opening of Berlin’s new Jewish community center.
